Privacy
What we collect, why, and how long we keep it.
Who we are
OddBrief is an independent English-language publication and is responsible for the personal data handled on this site. For any question or request: editor@oddbrief.com.
No accounts, no forms, no mailing list
There is no sign-up or account on this site, and we do not collect email addresses through it. If you email us, we keep the correspondence only as long as we need to deal with your request.
Read counter
When you open an article, that article's read count for the day goes up by one; the counter stores only the article and the day, not who read it. To stop one connection from inflating the count, we briefly keep a salted one-way hash of your IP address together with the article you read; these records are deleted automatically within two days. Your browser's session storage also gets a small marker so the same article is not counted twice; it disappears when you close the tab.
Hosting and service providers
The site runs on Vercel Inc. infrastructure; to serve the site and keep it secure, Vercel processes technical data such as your IP address and browser details with every request. Our content database runs on Neon and images are stored on Vercel Blob. These providers are based in the United States, so data they process may be transferred there. Fonts are served from this site, not from Google.
Analytics and cookies
We measure aggregate statistics such as visits and page speed with Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights, which use no cookies and do not identify you personally. Google Analytics loads only if you click "Accept" on the cookie banner; Google then sets _ga cookies in your browser and processes the measurement data on its own servers, including in the United States. If you decline or make no choice, it never loads. You can change your choice at any time with the button below or the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page; withdrawing consent stops Google Analytics and deletes its cookies. Your cookie choice is stored only in your own browser.
What we do not do
No ad networks, no tracking pixels, no social media trackers. We do not sell or rent data to anyone.
Legal basis and retention
Google Analytics relies on your consent. The read counter and hosting logs rely on our legitimate interest in accurate statistics and a secure site. IP hashes are kept for two days and emails until your request is resolved; Google Analytics data is kept according to the Google Analytics retention settings.
Your rights
To find out whether we hold data about you, or to have it corrected or deleted, to object, or to withdraw consent, write to editor@oddbrief.com. You can also complain to the Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK) or to the data protection authority in your country.
